The Association of Women in Finance Award is offered directly through multiple universities & colleges in British Columbia for women in finance-related programs.

An important part of the Association of Women in Finance (AWF)’s mission is to encourage young women to enter the field of finance. One way they meet their mandate is through their scholarship and bursary program. Funds are raised each year at the Annual PEAK Awards Gala and Fundraising Dinner through the generous support of our sponsors and attendees.

The AWF awards and scholarships are offered directly through specific schools in British Columbia with some variation in criteria. As there is some variation by school, they are listed on this page by school rather than singular Criteria and How to Apply sections. You must apply directly through your school and follow your schools application processes and deadlines.

Note: except where otherwise specified, these awards are not disability-specific.

BCIT

Note: this listing states a preference for students with a disability

According to the AWF PEAK Scholarship & Bursary Program webpage, BCIT offers one Association of Women in Finance Award annually to a female student enrolled in finance related programs at BCIT.

Preference is given to women who meet the following criteria:

  • single mothers who are advancing their education;
  • mature women returning to the workforce after a long absence; or
  • woman with a disability overcoming educational barriers

Camosun College

Deadline: April 24th, 2022

Criteria:

  • Female-identified accounting or finance student
  • Enrolled in the Post Degree Diploma, Bachelor of Business Administration, Diploma, or Advanced Certificate program during the current academic calendar year
  • High academic standing in Finance 210
  • Good academic standing
  • Preference is given to students who demonstrated volunteer/community experience or who have shown perseverance and determination in their studies

According to the AWF PEAK Scholarship & Bursary Program webpage, Capilano University offers one annual award of $3,500 to a female student enrolled in a business program with a focus on finance and demonstrating academic excellence.

Douglas College

Bursary deadlines at Douglas College:

  • Fall: August 15 – September 15
  • Winter: December 15 – January 17
  • Summer: April 14 – May 16

Douglas College bursary criteria:

  • Credit student
  • Good academic standing & have a minimum CGPA of 1.50
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Full-time or part-time student in the term for which the bursary will be received, as stated in the individual bursary qualifications
  • Participation in college and community activities may be considered

Other specific criteria for this award:

  • Female student
  • Enrolled in any Finance program at Douglas College

Kwantlen Polytechnic University

  • CGPA of 3.30 or greater

  • demonstrated financial need
  • enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration Accounting Degree program or the Accounting Diploma program
  • Preference shall be given to recipient who meets one or more or the following criteria:
    • a single mother advancing her education
    • a mature woman returning to the workforce after a long absence
    • a woman with a disability overcoming educational barriers
    • a woman obtaining a second degree/diploma

Okanagan College Foundation

Deadline: July 31st, 2022

Note: this listing states a preference for students with a disability

Criteria:

  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Female student
  • Completed a minimum of 24 credits in the Business Administration degree or diploma program at the Kelowna campus of Okanagan College
  • Returning for a subsequent year of full-time study (9 credits/60% course load OR 6 credits/40% course load for students with permanent disabilities) in the finance specialty of that program
  • Preference will be given to a student who is a single parent, a mature* woman returning to study, or has a disability or overcome a disability
  • Selection will be based on a combination of achievement and financial need with an emphasis on financial need
  • Eligible programs:
    • Bachelor or Business Admin Honours
    • Bachelor of Business Admin
    • Business Admin Diploma

*Mature students are applicants who are at least 19 years of age and have been out of full-time secondary school for at least one year prior to commencement in their program.

Simon Fraser University

According to the AWF PEAK Scholarship & Bursary Program webpage, SFU offers one AWF Award to a female student enrolled in a graduate degree program in the Faculty of Business Administration program who has past experience in the field of finance and future plans to pursue a career in finance. Preference is given to women with a history of volunteer/community service experience.

University of British Columbia

According to the AWF PEAK Scholarship & Bursary Program webpage, one Association of Women in Finance Award is offered to a female student enrolled in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at the University of British Columbia with a focus on finance and future plans to pursue a career in finance. Preference is given to women who demonstrate a history of community service. The Scholarship is made on the recommendation of the Sauder School of Business.
